IBF - What do you gain from festivals, seminars, networking and brokerage events?

The bi-annual International Business Festival (IBF) held in Liverpool's exhibition centre, sees visitors from many parts of the world. I imagine preparations will be in hand for the next IBF event (June 12 - 28 2018), which promises to be bigger and better. Held over three weeks, this offers different themes, so can pick the dates that offer most value to your type of business.

What I found interesting last year, apart from listening to some excellent speakers and picking up tips on social media marketing, was the brokerage events organised by both the European Enterprise Network (EEN) and the IFB. I met with companies, for 1-2-1 meetings, which is a valuable resource for businesses, especially business partnerships that offer a win-win.

There were after-show events I attended, such as a barbecue to raise money for a local Liverpool children's charity, and an EEN networking event at the Everyman Theatre, which was great for meeting businesses from across Europe. And I made some good friends too.

Also at this event, were Google, giving you a chance to talk to their staff and gain some valuable tips of search engine optimization, a BT Accelerate event with speaker Johnny 'Cupcakes', and business advice from UKT&I.

My first impression, having visited 14 halls at ISE in Amsterdam, is that the IFB seemed very small by comparison. However, this became a 'doing' and 'taking part' rather than looking at new technology.  In hindsight, I would have signed up for more of the seminars and events, as you needed to have pre-registered to gain entrance to some of these. For the next IFB, I will certainly ensure I do so.

My highlights of IBF

I benefited from many of the events, although my favourites, and the ones I gained most from, was the brokerage events organised by both the IBF themselves and the EEN, giving me an opportunity to have 1-2-1 discussions with other businesses across Europe and other parts of the world. I also spent a whole day in the Gateway 2 Enterprise marquee, organised by Karen Melonie Gould, Mentor/Coach/Author/Entrepreneur, listening to some great speakers, including a millionaire businessman, and talks on getting the most from social media Facebook and Linkedin.

Win-Win business partnerships
